Hey looks like I'm in the market for a PS3.... I'll be getting one hopefully in the next couple of weeks... they stopped shipping the 80GB backwards compatible PS3 cause they're coming out with a 80GB non-backwards compatible one in June with Metal Gear4 packaged with it... then I've also heard there are a 120-180GB version ones to follow.... I am looking for an 80GB cause despite what people say it does actually have the best Compatibly from what I've read on the sony website backwards compatibility issues page.... what do y'all think?

well i have the 60GB with back wards but i rarely play any ps2 games so your getting a good deal with the 80GB and with blu ray can't lose but when you do get one hulk let me know and ill give my handle name on the ps3

The price, pitifully small library, sixaxis, and the somewhat useless PSN should have been an indication . . .

A good system? I dare say it's the worst option of the current three consoles. Personally, I'd just stick with the PS2 or 360 until the price of the PS3 goes down and it gets some more games. Hopefully, the developers will pick up the pace, but for now, it's not much of an investment.

PS3 aint a bad buy if your in the market for a blu-ray player. its not a bad piece of machinery (technically, its quite good...), its just lacking in titles.

as a standalone system, yeah its got the smallest selection of the three and very few exclusives headin out any time soon that ive got any interest in, so 3rd place out of 3. as i dont need a blu-ray player, its a "do not buy" for me.

well watchin the blu ray is perfect for me since i do have a hdtv but ive always been undecided so thats why i got both ps3 and 360 so i can kick ass in either system come look for me if you have one or the other :P

Is it really that necessary or worth it to buy a new console just for 1 game? >.>

Only if it's the Gamecube and Super Smash Bros. Melee. ~_^

I acctualy have done that twice XD. I got the Game Cube for the Yugioh game on it and my PS3 for Gundam: Dynasty Warriors (I know you can get it on 360, but I'm anti-Xbox). PS3 needs new games, cause it's really boring right now. I mostly use mine for playing PS1 and PS2 games, cause I got the 60 GB one before they stopped making them over here.

Although everyone QQs about having no backwards compatibility... most of us probably already has a PS2...modded.

Seriously, my ps2 mostly plays imported titles, and rarely touches local launches. No BC is not that big of a deal really. And its not something to say it ruins the console.

I picked up the MGS4 bundle and I'm so happy. get it.

I haven't even bothered checking to see whether its backwards compatible or not. whats the point? if u wanna play last gen games play them on a last gen system. between MSG4, GTA4, and Assassin's Creed I don't really have much of a reason to go back to my PS2 atm...

If its the 80gb version then it should have the software bc. Luckily I got the first gen 60gb ps3 and dont have to worry about this stuff haha. But bc is not a problem anyways since I have a modded ps2 which is better then the bc

phantomflame
06-17-2008, 08:37 PM
well personally I don't care about bc so I wasn't really concerned about it. the only time bc really mattered to me was with Nintendo's handhelds. that was mainly cause I got the systems pretty early in their life and systems don't have the greatest games early on. (plus the DS had rechargeable batteries. major bonus.)

but since the PS3 has been out for a while and has some solid games, I really don't have much reason to go bc. unless I wanna play GH3, then I'll just switch around some cables and I'm set.

Yeah, they removed the backwards combatibilty now anyway. So I'll have to use my PS2. But I have two of them (a newer one and a semi-broke one which prompted me to buy the new one) and a second TV in the basement, so yeah.

Okay, I bought it. Once I get my fiber optic switch I'll set it all up. I got Assassin's Creed and I'll pick up The Dark Knight on Tuesday. :D
